Before you start, make sure you are logged into the correct TikTok account on your phone. TikTok will send your data export to the email address linked to your account, so make sure you have access to that inbox. The export includes your profile information, activity history, followers and following list, videos, comments, direct messages, and more. This guide walks you through every single tap from your profile screen to the final download request.

Safety First

You never need to share your TikTok password with any third-party website or app to get your data. TikTok has a fully official, built-in data download tool inside its own settings. If any app or website claims it can show your TikTok followers, unfollowers, or account activity by asking you to "connect your TikTok" or log in through their platform, that is a credential risk. Do not do it. Everything in this guide stays entirely within the official TikTok app on your phone.

Step 1. Go to Your Profile

Tap "Profile" in the bottom-right corner of the TikTok app.

Open the TikTok app on your iPhone or Android phone. At the bottom of the screen, you will see five tabs: Home, Friends, the post button in the center, Inbox, and Profile. Tap Profile on the far right to go to your profile page. This shows your videos, liked content, followers count, and following count.

Step 2. Tap the Menu Icon

Once you are on your profile page, look at the top-right corner of the screen. You will see the ☰ hamburger menu icon there. Tap it. A side panel will slide out from the right showing several sections including Assets, Personal tools, Creation and business tools, and at the very bottom, Settings and privacy.

The Settings and privacy page is organized into several sections. Under the Account section, you will see an option simply called Account with a person icon next to it. Step 5. Tap "Download your data"

On the Account page, tap "Download your data".

Inside the Account settings page, you will see several options listed: Account Information, Password, Passkey, Verification, Switch to Personal Account, Download your data, and Deactivate or delete account. Tap Download your data. The description underneath it says "Get a copy of your data from all the TikTok apps you use." This is the official TikTok data export tool.

Step 6. Select Your Data and Request the File

On the Download your data page, choose what to include and tap "Request data".

After tapping Download your data, you will land on TikTok's data export page. Here you can choose between two options. The first is Select all which includes everything TikTok has stored about your account. The second option lets you manually pick specific data categories if you only want certain information.

TikTok gives you two format options for the file. You can choose TXT format or JSON format. Always choose JSON format. JSON files work with data analysis tools and are the standard format for any tool that processes TikTok data. TXT files are human-readable but cannot be parsed by most tools.

Once you have made your selections, tap the Request data button. TikTok will queue your export and start preparing your file.

Step 7. Wait for the Email Notification

TikTok will send you an email when your data is ready to download.

After tapping Request data, TikTok processes your request in the background. You will receive an email notification at the address linked to your TikTok account when the file is ready. Most TikTok data exports are ready within a few hours. Larger accounts with more content and history may take up to a few days.

You can also check the status of your request by going back to the same Download your data page inside Settings. TikTok shows your pending and completed requests there.

Step 8. Download Your File

Come back to the Download your data page, tap your completed request, and download the file.

Once you receive the email notification, open the TikTok app, go back to Profile, tap the ☰ menu, open Settings and privacy, tap Account, and then tap Download your data. You will see your completed export listed there. Tap it and then tap the download button to save the ZIP file directly to your device.

Troubleshooting

You do not see a "Request data" button. Make sure you are on the Download your data page inside Account settings, not anywhere else. If the button is still not appearing, try updating the TikTok app to the latest version.

The email notification never arrived. Check your spam or junk folder first. If it has been more than 48 hours and nothing arrived, go back to the Download your data page inside TikTok and check if the download is listed there as ready. You can also submit a new request if needed.

The download link expired. TikTok download links are only available for a limited time after your export is ready. If your link expired, go back to Settings, tap Account, tap Download your data, and submit a new request.

You want only your followers and following data. When selecting data in Step 6, look for the User and Activity category or a similar option and select only that. This will keep the export file small and fast to generate instead of including all your videos and messages.

You are not sure which account you are logged into. Tap Profile at the bottom of TikTok and check the username and profile picture at the top of your profile page before starting this process. The data export will only cover the account currently signed in.

What to Do With Your TikTok Data

Once you have the ZIP file saved on your device, you can open it to review everything TikTok has stored about your account. The JSON files inside will contain your complete profile information, your followers and following lists, your video history, your liked videos, your comments, your direct messages, your search history, your watch history, and your ad data depending on what you chose to export. If you are using a tool that reads TikTok follower data, drop the ZIP file into that tool and it will process everything locally inside your browser without uploading your data to any external server.
